Thursday Thoughts - Self-Respect
Journal Prompt – Respect yourself. You’re the best judge of what’s right. Are there some areas in your life where you need to start setting some boundaries and respecting yourself more? Write about it and how you’re going to change that situation.
If a situation that you’re in feels wrong, makes you feel bad about yourself, draining, then you need to take a step back and see what needs to change. Do you need to walk away? Not always. Some things can work themselves out once you establish what needs to be fixed and fix it. Talk to the person about it if it has to do with an individual. Even with technology the way it is today, people can’t seem to talk to each other anymore. You can set boundaries for yourself without going silent. People might surprise you and be willing to respect your new boundaries, make changes themselves. If they don’t and end up getting mad at you, well, then you know what to do.
I was always taught to treat others as you would like to be treated, but first you must treat yourself with respect and kindness. You can’t pour from an empty cup. I was also taught to never assume, always ask first or just listen for that matter. Assumption has made this world really difficult and caused a lot of unnecessary situations. It starts with you, what kind of life do you want? You’ve got the controls.
